Hello World of Blogging! My name is Morgan and I am officially stoked to get my booty out of Southern California and off to explore the world.
My backpack recently came in the mail and I have to say, REI makes one heck of a home.
I am forty days away from departure and I find the majority of my time spent asking folks how they would like their eggs prepared. Serving has been a fun experience and working by a hotel on the water results in many of these egg consumers to be tourists. With this, I get all sorts of advice on my upcoming travels. "You HAVE to go here." "O no, DON'T go there." It seems that the best way to travel will be to make my own path. But that's life, right? Anyway, I'm working to save up for my trip and the eclecticity of the guests that I serve has become a small dose of the world that I will soon discover. (Yes, i made up a word.)

Anyway, I'm working to save up for my trip and the eclecticity of the guests that I serve has become a small dose of the world that I will soon discover. (Yes, i made up a word.)The idea of venturing off seems kind of crazy. I have been incredibly fortunate my entire life. Even camping, I have always had a toilet to use and a pillow for my head. I imagine these things won't be so hard to come by overseas but I'd like to think that these norms will no longer become necessary. The idea of just being...with a backpack, maybe a book, and some means of writing. The rest will be impromptu and life will just figure itself out. Maybe? I mean, it will figure itself out of course but I truly have no idea what I'm getting myself into. No matter what, it will be an experience and that's what I'm most excited about.
I fly into Singapore May 1st. I will meet Jason there (excited!!) and we will spend two months in Southeast Asia. At the moment, I know nothing of hostels, meals, or means of contacting my Mom to say "I'm safe." But it will all come together. The unknown is half the fun. Or maybe most of it...
At the end of the two months, we will find ourselves in Bangkok at which time we will fly to Rome (with a layover in Dubai.)
When I think of backpacking, I feel more curious than anything else. My Mom has always called me "curious" so I imagine this natural trait of mine will be my major fuel source.
So, for now...I will keep saving, check off my bucket list for beautiful sunny San Diego, give little Fitzgerald all of the love he deserves (I've even been giving in to playing 'ball' with him for hours, literally), and get myself as prepared as possible for what's ahead (while remembering what was behind and what is now.)
So long for now

Great first post! You look so good (dorky) in your backpack. You'll have to give it a name. I look forward to reading this over the coming months!
ReplyDeleteThis is the perfect attitude to have for any voyage, love it! I can't wait to meet you in Asia Morgan...going from butchering Spanish and having some what coherent communicative encounters to making animal noises, sign language, and basically playing Charades in Asia is going to be awesome! This will be unforgettable...see you in 37 days!
